A small side-path leads through the trees to the stone steps that rise up to Dr Watts Mound. Here the 18th Century hymn writer found calm and solace. For 300 years it has remained a corner set aside as a haven of peace, calm and contemplation.
Abney Park Trust's current management plan includes provision for a seat around the tree that grows from the centre of the spot.
The school plan envisages knocking down the ancient wall that encircles this mound.
A stone slab, erected by admirers, reads: "This mount was a favourite retirement place of the late Isaac Watts."
